Indira Canteens to Pilot Digital Food Ordering System in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: The government is set to roll out a new digital platform aimed at streamlining food ordering from Indira Canteens, the city’s well-known low-cost eateries. This initiative seeks to boost efficiency and make these canteens more accessible to the public, according to a news report by Times of India.
Unlike traditional food delivery services, this system will allow users to reserve meals at nearby Indira Canteens. Once ordered, the meals will be set aside for a brief period, ensuring they are ready for customers upon arrival.
Additionally, the platform will feature a feedback mechanism, enabling customers to share their thoughts on food quality and report any issues they face. This feedback will be sent directly to the relevant authorities, allowing for prompt action.
This digital initiative is part of a broader strategy to uphold the reputation of Indira Canteens as a dependable and affordable dining option for Bengaluru’s lower-income residents.
To begin with, the system will be piloted in Rajarajeshwari Nagar. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is currently in the process of issuing tenders to support this digital upgrade. Based on the pilot’s success and customer feedback, the program may be extended to other districts across the state, according to a senior BBMP official.
The digital overhaul is also expected to tackle persistent challenges related to food quality, contractor management, and cleanliness at Indira Canteens. “By analyzing daily transactions and customer preferences, authorities aim to customize menu options at each canteen to better meet local demand,” the official added.
